The adult that I interviewed for my Learner Analysis Project was my clinical teacher Mr. Gregory Greer. Greer is a new teacher at Arvada High School, this being his first year at the school, but has recently been hired on as a permanent teacher. He teaches U.S. History, and World Geography and is also an assistant coach for the girls soccer team.
As I interviewed Mr. Greer and asked him questions about the student that I am working with, we began to discuss the student in detail from his perspective. Greer described the student as happy, respectful, and well liked and accepted by his peers. He states that the student is very outgoing once you get to know him and break his outer shell, and he laughs at jokes and cooperates with him during class time. Greer believes that the student has potential for high academic success, but lacks the motivation he needs to reach that level of potential. He claims that the student is very honest, especially when it comes to his lack of motivation. A key trait that Greer says is a major part of this is that laziness tends to be common, and he does so whenever he feels like he can get away with it. IN Greer's words, "Its more immaturity, then actual lack of motivation". While saying this Greer made it very clear that he believes that the students can turn it all around, and believes that in his later years of high school he will mature and get it together.
Some strengths that the Greer believes the student has are Honesty,self-awareness for his age, and he uses the statement, "Knows he can do better, just doesn't know why he should yet." He says that the student's reading comprehension is strong, and he does well in Lit Coures, and again he states that he has a lot of potential and is highly intelligent.
When I asked Greer what his relationship with the student was like, he said it was not very deep but he feels that now after having him in his class for a second semester that their relationship has grown and feel as though it is a solid traditional teacher student relationship. They have mutual respect for one another, and he says that the student no longer lies to him and his straight up with the truth, and realized that if he doesn't lie its easier to build trust with the teacher.
I asked Greer if he knew any of the students interests. Greer said he knows that the student is extremely passionate about basketball, and is a social person that loves to hang out with his friends, and is generally an active young man.
I proceeded to ask Greer how he would describe the student on a "work wise" scale. He answered with, "The work he turns in when he really tries is an 8 out of 10 product, but when he isn't interested in the topic, it can be as low as a 4 out of 10." A statement from Greer about the students work level was, " He's a middle of the pack student, with upper class potential as far as work is concerned."
I thanked Greer for his time, and he said he was happy to help, and that he looks forward to seeing the student grow over the next couple years.
