The student that I have chosen to observe and analyze is "Anthony". He is a 16 year old male sophomore at Arvada High School and is a part of the GT program. From a sociocultural perspective he is a Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander student and comes from a home with both parents. I chose this specific student because of the background in which my CT (Mr. Greer) spoke about him. He said he was a bright young man and with a little more initiative and guidance he could become a great student. I also wanted to work with a student who was a part of the GT program, but who was having some troubles. I want to create a positive influence in his life that may cause him to become more academically inclined.
Initial Impressions: The first time that I ever saw "Anthony"was when I was first meeting Mr. Greer and he came to him telling him that he was excited and ready for this new semester. Greer asked him why he started showing up more in his class, ans Anthony's response was,"Well, I got my first college letter in the mail." This automatically created an interest in me, wanting to get to know more about him, and help him with his education process to get him to college. His general attitude towards school seems mediocre, but when he does show interest in the subject, he responds and engages in the classroom.
